This Charter sets out the manner in which the Irish Rugby family aspires to live its values through its actions in each aspect of the game from grassroots to professional rugby. The values and standards of all involved, from player, coach, volunteer to spectator are vital to the work and reputation of the game. Our values are our moral compass, on and off the pitch.

Respect

Respect for others and self. Gratitude to coaches, officials, volunteers and other leaders in the game. Respect for the physicality of the game and commitment to the safety of the player as paramount. Discipline while playing and respect for all those involved in the rugby family.

Integrity

Actions on and off the pitch that are open and transparent. We question what is not in the best interests of the player and those involved in the game, especially youth players. In rugby we aspire to do the right thing and endeavour not to be the bystander.

Inclusivity

Diversity of opinion and culture means working together to be a vibrant, respectful organisation. Rugby is a sport of choice for all, it transcends barriers and differences of race, gender, religious and sexual orientation. Players have a positive, life-long experience of the game and members can remain within the Irish Rugby family throughout their lives, fulfilling a role that enables them to be the best version of themselves.

Fun

A passion for the game, on and off the pitch, rugby is a source of joy for many people, especially youth. We endeavour to make it an enjoyable space where members are accepted for who they are irrespective of gender, sexuality, race or religion. All players have an equal right to learn and play the game and should be respected for the age and stage of development that they are; especially youth players.

Excellence

Strive to be the best that I can be, know that there may be others who play better than me, make better decisions and perform under pressure better. But I will finish my task knowing that I could not have done more for myself, the opponents and clubmates and I can stand by the fact that I did my best.

Irish Rugby aspires to act in a professional manner and show leadership throughout the game by empowering the rugby family to make informed decisions and demonstrate these behaviours in all rugby related activities.
